Unintended lane change warning (AFIL - lane departure warning system)

~3min read

The lane departure warning system (AFIL) in the Citroën C6 (1st Gen, 2005–2012) is a highly developed driver assistance system that warns when the vehicle unintentionally leaves its lane. From approx. 80 km/h, it detects road markings and, when a marking is crossed, triggers a vibration in the seat on the side on which the marking was crossed. The system is activated by a button, and the last selected status is retained when the vehicle is restarted. However, the system does not detect markings on dirty roads, in heavy rain or where the lines are unclear. The system encourages drivers to avoid unintentionally leaving the lane. This system is an ideal complement to the safety equipment of the Citroën C6 and promotes focused driving, especially on long journeys and when tired.

This driver assistance system warns you if you unintentionally cross lane markings (solid or dashed line).

It is intended for use on motorways and expressways and only works from a speed of approximately 80 km/h.

Activation/deactivation

Press control 1 once to activate the function. The indicator light of the control comes on.

Press control 1 a second time to deactivate the function. The indicator light of the control goes out.

When the engine is started, the mode selected when the engine was switched off is retained as activated/deactivated.

Warnung bei nicht beabsichtigtem spurwechsel (afil - spurassistent)

Function

Above a speed of approx. 80 km/h, you will be warned by a vibration of your seat cushion when you cross a road marking:

  • This occurs on the right-hand side when the road marking on the right has been crossed.
  • This occurs on the left when the road marking on the left has been crossed.

When the indicator is switched on, and for 20 seconds after it has been switched off, the system does not give a warning.

Notes

This device has been developed to identify road markings.

In certain cases, an unwanted warning may be triggered, for example when driving over a direction arrow or a non-standard marking.

The performance of the system may be temporarily impaired by external conditions:

  • Difficulties detecting road markings due to:
    • Worn markings.
    • Low contrast with the road surface.
  • Sensors dirty due to:
    • Driving in snow or heavy rain.
    • Driving on dirty roads or through puddles.

If the malfunction persists, contact a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.

The driver's attention and control of the vehicle must not be impaired.

The lane departure warning system of the Citroën C6 1st Gen reliably warns the driver when the vehicle unintentionally leaves its lane. Vibrations in the seat cushion signal deviations immediately, which makes the Citroën C6 2005-2012 particularly safe on motorways and expressways.

This system supports the driver without intervening in the steering and helps to avoid unintended lane changes. The Citroën C6 1st Gen combines driving comfort with a high level of safety here.
