Diesel particulate filter

~2min read

The diesel particulate filter of the Citroën C6 Diesel plays a key role in environmental protection. It filters harmful soot particles out of the exhaust gases, which improves air quality and prevents visible black smoke. On longer journeys in city traffic, the filter can become clogged, which is why it is recommended to drive occasionally at higher speed to allow regeneration. The simultaneous illumination of the SERVICE warning light and the exhaust treatment warning light indicates a risk of blockage. In this case, visit a specialist workshop. In addition, the level of the diesel additive must be checked regularly. A low additive level reduces the cleaning effect and should be topped up immediately. Regular maintenance of this system is essential for proper function and low emissions.

In addition to the catalytic converter, this filter helps preserve air quality by retaining unburned, environmentally harmful particles. This prevents sooty exhaust emissions.

Particle filter clogging

This clogging is caused by an overloading of the particle filter (driving conditions such as unusually long periods of city driving: low speed, traffic jams, etc.).

To regenerate the filter, it is recommended to drive for at least 5 minutes at a speed of at least 60 km/h as soon as possible and when traffic conditions permit. If the problem persists, contact a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop.

Note: After prolonged operation of the vehicle at very low speed or at idle, water vapour may occasionally appear at the exhaust outlet during acceleration. This has no effect on the vehicle or the environment.

Partikelfilter dieselIf the SERVICE warning lamp and the exhaust gas treatment warning lamp come on at the same time, this indicates an increased risk of clogging.
