Parking Brake Indicator/Brake System Warning Light

This indicator performs the following two functions:

1. The indicator comes on when the ignition key is turned to ON (II). It reminds the driver that the parking brake is still engaged.

If you start driving with the parking brake not fully released, a warning buzzer will sound. Driving with the parking brake applied may cause the brake units to overheat and fail, and may also cause rapid tyre wear.

Symbolis also shown on the multi-information display. The appearance of this symbol may be accompanied by the warning message "RELEASE PARKING BRAKE".

2. If the indicator remains on with the engine running after the parking brake has been fully released, or comes on while the vehicle is moving, this may indicate a malfunction in the brake system. For more information, refer to page 551.

In addition, the following symbol appears on the multi-information display:which may be accompanied by the warning message "CHECK SYSTEM".
