PROCEDURE

1. Measure the preload by turning the pinion with special service tool 09565–11100 one revolution every 4–6 seconds. Also measure the starting force of the rack.

Total pinion preload: 0.6–1.3 N·m

Measure the pinion preload over the full stroke of the steering gear.

2. If the preload does not meet the specified value, first adjust the plug tightening torque and measure the pinion preload again.
