Rail Pressure Sensor (RPS) Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The Rail Pressure Sensor (RPS), installed on the fuel rail, measures the instantaneous fuel pressure in the delivery pipe. The sensing element (semiconductor element) built into the sensor converts the pressure signal into a voltage, which the ECM uses to accurately control the injection duration and quantity. Furthermore, if the actual rail pressure differs from the target rail pressure based on the sensor output signal, the ECM controls the rail pressure using the fuel pressure control valve.
