DEPOSIT

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the air duct and air cleaner assembly. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Air Cleaner")
  3. Remove the battery. (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "Battery".)
  4. Disconnect the ECM connector (A).
  5. Remove the mounting bolts and nut, then remove the ECM bracket (B). ECM Bracket Mounting Nut/Bolt: 9.8–11.8 N·m
  6. Remove the ECM (B) after loosening the mounting nuts (A) of the engine control module. Support it. ECM Bracket Mounting Nut/Bolt: 9.8–11.8 N·m

REMEDY

  1. To install, perform the removal procedure in reverse order.

ECM FAILURE INSPECTION PROCEDURE

  1. ECM GROUND CIRCUIT TEST: Measure the resistance between the ECM ground and chassis ground using the rear of the ECM wiring harness connector as the checkpoint on the ECM side. Repair any problem found.

    Specification: Below 1 Ω

  2. ECM CONNECTOR INSPECTION: Disconnect the ECM connector and visually inspect the ground terminals on the ECM side and the harness side for bent pins or poor contact tension. Repair any problem found.
  3. If the problem cannot be found in steps 1 and 2, the ECM may be faulty. If so, make sure there were no DTCs before this. Replace the ECM with a new one, then recheck the vehicle. If a DTC is detected, check it before replacing the ECM.
  4. RECHECK THE ORIGINAL ECM: Install the original ECM (if it was not damaged) in a vehicle in good condition and inspect the vehicle. If the problem reappears, replace the original ECM with a new one. If the problem does not reappear, it is an intermittent problem. (Refer to Intermittent Problem Inspection Procedure in the Basic Inspection Procedure.)

ITEM

ECM Neutral Mode Procedure

  • The following procedure must be performed after replacing the ECM on a vehicle with an immobilizer.
[When installing a used ECM]
  1. Perform the "ECM Neutral Mode" procedure using GDS. (Refer to Body Electrical System - "Immobilizer System - Repair Procedures".)
  2. After completing "ECM Neutral Mode", perform the "Key Learning" procedure using GDS. (Refer to Electrical System - "Immobilizer System - Repair Procedures".)
[When installing a new ECM] Perform the "Key Learning" procedure using GDS. (Refer to Body Electrical System - "Immobilizer System - Repair Procedures".)
  • The following procedure must be performed after replacing the ECM on a vehicle with a Smart Key System (Start Button).
[When installing a used ECM]
  1. Perform the "ECM Neutral Mode" procedure using GDS. (Refer to Body Electrical System - "Smart Key System - Repair Procedures".)
  2. After completing "ECM Neutral Mode", turn ALL on, then off, using the smart key or start button. The ECM then automatically learns the smart key information.
[When installing a new ECM] Turn ALL on, then off, using the smart key or start button. The ECM then automatically learns the smart key information.
ETC Module Learning Procedure
  • Perform ETC module learning after replacing the ETC module, etc. (Refer to Electronic Throttle Control System - "Adjustment".)
