Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

Built into the manifold absolute pressure sensor, the intake air temperature sensor (IATS) measures the temperature of the intake air. Air temperature correction is necessary to calculate the air volume accurately, because air density depends on temperature. The ECM uses the IATS signal as well as the MAPS signal. It is a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) type, and its resistance is inversely proportional to temperature.
