CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (CKPS) Description and Operation

~1min read

Description

The Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKPS) is one of the most common and important sensors in the engine control system. It detects the position of the crankshaft. If the CKPS input signal is missing, the engine may stop. This sensor is installed on the frame in a ladder-type arrangement. It generates an alternating current signal that interacts with the magnetic flux field. The field is formed by the sensor and the target wheel while the engine is running. The target wheel has 58 slots, and 2 teeth are missing, at a crankshaft angle of 360 CA (crankshaft angle). For ISG type: the ISG function receives reliable crankshaft position information in all operating modes. The CKPS in the ISG function provides a quick engine restart and efficient combustion.
