Description and Operation

Description

The Ambient Temperature Sensor (ATS) is installed on the outside module and detects the ambient air temperature. The ECM receives ambient air temperature information together with intake air temperature information in order to control the precise amount of air supplied through the turbocharger. The electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases as the temperature increases. This sensor is a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) type, and its resistance is inversely proportional to temperature.

Repair Procedures

Inspection

1. 1

   Turn the ignition off.

   Disconnect the ATS connector.

3. 3

   Measure the resistance between terminals 1 and 2 of the ATS.

4. 4

   Make sure the resistance is within specification.

Removal and Installation

1. 1

   Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.

2. 2

   Remove the engine room cover.

   (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - Engine Room Cover)

3. 3

   Disconnect the connector, then remove the ambient temperature sensor (A).

   

4. 4

   Install in the reverse order of removal.
