Description and Operation
Description
The Intake Air Temperature Sensor (IATS) is built into the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor in the intake manifold. The sensor detects the temperature of the intake air.
Air temperature correction is required for accurate calculation of air quantity, because air density depends on temperature. Therefore, the ECM uses both the MAP signal and the IATS signal. This sensor is a Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) thermistor, and its resistance changes inversely with temperature.

Inspection
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the IAT sensor connector.
Measure the resistance between terminals 3 and 4 of the IAT sensor.
Make sure the resistance is within specification.
