Restraining pregnant women. Restraint systems for infants and children. Restraint systems for larger children
The Kia Opirus provides clear guidelines for restraining pregnant women and children of all age groups. Pregnant women should wear the belt low and comfortably, while children must always be secured in age-appropriate restraint systems. The notes on correct seating position, the use of child seat boosters and avoiding common mistakes, such as two people sharing one belt, are particularly valuable. This keeps all occupants safe.
Restraining pregnant women
Pregnant women should generally wear three-point belts, but follow individual medical advice. The lap portion of the belt should be worn AS COMFORTABLY AND AS LOW AS POSSIBLE.
CAUTION - pregnant womenPregnant women should never position the lap portion of the belt so that it lies above or at the level of the fetus.
Restraint systems for infants and children
For safety reasons, infants and small children must be secured in restraint systems suitable for the child's age and weight.
Never allow a child to stand or kneel on a seat while the vehicle is moving. Never share one seat belt between a child and an adult, and never secure two children with a single seat belt.
We recommend that children always travel in the rear seats.
CAUTION - children on lapsNever let a child sit on your lap or hold a child in your arms while the vehicle is in motion.
Even a strong adult cannot hold on to a child in the event of even a minor collision.
WARNING - hot metal partsSeat belts and seats can become very hot if the vehicle has been parked in warm or hot weather, and children could burn themselves on hot objects. Check the temperature of the seats and buckles before placing a child in the vehicle.
A large number of child restraint systems (child seats) from various manufacturers are available.
A suitable child seat must always comply with the applicable approval regulations. Before using a child seat, make sure that it is labeled with the corresponding approval mark.
A child seat must be selected according to both the size of the child and the size of the vehicle seat.
When installing a child restraint system, always observe the user instructions provided by the child seat manufacturer.
Restraint systems for older children
As children grow, they need larger child seats or booster seats that match their body size after a certain period of time.
When a child has grown too large to sit in the available child seats, use the standard seat belts installed in your vehicle to restrain the child.
When restraining an older child, observe the general user information, precautions and safety instructions in this chapter.
If, when fastening a three-point belt on an outer seat position of the rear seat, the shoulder belt slightly touches the child's head or neck, try moving the child closer to the center of the seat.
If the shoulder belt still slightly touches the child's head or neck, the child may still need to use a child restraint system suitable for its size.
Devices that help keep the shoulder belt further away from the child's head and neck are also available from the aftermarket.
CAUTION - small children and the shoulder belt- Never allow the shoulder belt webbing to touch a child's head or neck while the vehicle is in motion.
- A seat belt that is incorrectly worn and not properly adjusted can cause serious or fatal injuries to the child.
