Lap belt*

~3min read

The lap belt in the Kia Opirus is mainly used to secure the center rear seat position and provides reliable restraint when used correctly. Its simple operation is supported by clear instructions and important warnings. It is especially important that the webbing runs low across the hips, never across the waist, to minimize the risk of injury in a collision. Correct use significantly increases safety.

Stowing the rear seat belt buckles*

  • The rear seat belt buckles and latch plates can be stowed in the seatbacks and seat cushions if required.
  • Roll up the center rear seat belt with its latch plate and stow it in the pocket located between the rear seatback and seat cushion.

Use and care of the seat belts

To ensure maximum protection from the seat belts, observe the following instructions:

  • Always drive with your seat belt fastened, even on short trips.
  • Always correct a twisted seat belt before fastening it.
  • Keep sharp objects and other items that could damage the seat belts away from the belts.
  • Check the webbing, anchorages, buckles and all other seat belt components regularly for signs of wear and damage. Have damaged or heavily worn parts of the seat belt system, as well as components of doubtful condition, replaced.
  • Only use mild upholstery or carpet cleaner to clean the seat belts. Observe the instructions on the cleaning products.

Do not dye or bleach the webbing, as this weakens the belt material. The strength of the seat belt could then be insufficient in a collision.

  • Do not modify the seat belts or attach any additional parts to them.
  • After releasing a seat belt, make sure the webbing is fully retracted and that the belt cannot get trapped in a door.

The lap belt in the Kia Opirus 2003–2011 is an important addition for securing passengers, especially in the center rear seat. Its simple operation and clear instructions ensure that it is fastened correctly.

Routing the belt low across the hips minimizes the risk of injury in an accident. In this way, the lap belt contributes to the high overall safety of the Kia Opirus.
