Maintenance

Recommended tire pressure for cold tires

~2min read

Tire pressure of all wheels (including the spare tire) must be checked when the tires are cold. A "cold tire" means the vehicle has not been driven for at least three hours or has been driven no more than 1 mile (1.6 km).

Maintaining the specified tire pressure results in optimal driving performance, better vehicle handling and minimum tire wear. For the recommended tire pressure, refer to "Tires and Wheels" on page 9-06.

All specifications (tire size and tire pressure) are located on a single label on the driver's side center pillar.

WARNING

Tire pressure too low

Clearly insufficient tire pressure (70 kPa or less) may cause excessive heat build-up, tire failure, tread separation and other tire damage that can make it impossible to control the vehicle and result in serious injury or death. This risk is significantly higher on hot days during long trips at high speed.

DANGER

  • Insufficient tire pressure also causes excessive tire wear, increased fuel consumption and deteriorated handling. There is also a risk of wheel rim deformation. Check and correct tire pressure regularly. If a tire needs frequent inflation, have it inspected by a specialized workshop. Kia recommends visiting a Kia dealer or service partner.
  • Excessive tire pressure results in harsh driving and excessive wear at the center of the tread, and increases the risk of tire damage from external impact.
  • Tire pressure in warm tires is typically about 28 - 41 kPa higher than the pressure in cold tires. Do not reduce the tire pressure of warm tires to the cold tire value, as this will result in under-inflated tires.
  • Remember to reinstall the valve caps. Without valve caps, dust and moisture may enter the valve and cause leaks. Replace any missing valve caps as soon as possible.

WARNING

Tire air pressure

Both excessively high and excessively low tire pressure increase tire wear, degrade handling and may cause sudden tire failure. Loss of vehicle control and resulting personal injury may occur.

DANGER

Tire air pressure

Always observe the following points:

  • Check tire pressure when the tires are cold. (After the vehicle has been parked for at least three hours or driven no more than 1.6 km since starting.)
  • Also check the spare tire air pressure each time you check the pressure of the other tires.
  • Do not overload your vehicle. Make sure not to exceed the roof load limit if your vehicle is equipped with a roof rack.
  • Worn and old tires may lead to accidents. Replace worn and damaged tires immediately.
