Kia Stonic: Fuel System / High Pressure Fuel Pump

Release the residual pressure in the fuel line.

(Refer to Fuel Delivery - "Relieve Residual Pressure in the Fuel Line").

Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

Disconnect the high pressure fuel line.

(Refer to Engine Mechanical - "Air Cleaner").

Remove the mounting bolts (A), then remove the high pressure fuel pump (B) from the cylinder head.

High pressure fuel pump mounting bolt: 12.8~14.7 N·m

Caution
Loosen the two bolts alternately in two small steps (half turn each). If one of the two bolts is fully removed while the other is still installed, the cylinder head may be damaged due to the spring tension of the pump.

NOTE

Before installing the high pressure fuel pump, rotate the crankshaft to bring the roller tappet to its lowest position. Otherwise, the mounting bolts may be damaged due to the pump spring tension.
Keep foreign material out during assembly.
DO NOT reuse the bolt.
Do not reuse the high-pressure fuel line.
When tightening the high pressure fuel pump mounting bolts, first tighten the bolts by hand, then tighten them gradually (half turn at a time) in a crisscross pattern until fully seated.
Install parts to the specified torque.
Insert the bolts and first tighten them by hand until they no longer turn. Then use a torque wrench to tighten to the specified torque.

Do not align the bolts or nuts directly with the bolt holes or fittings. If tightened in this condition, the threads may be damaged, causing fuel leakage.
Note that the component may be damaged internally if dropped. In this case, inspect it before use.
Apply engine oil to the O-ring (A) of the high pressure fuel pump. Install the roller tappet (B) and boss (C). Also apply engine oil to the groove into which the projection is inserted.

Installation is the reverse of removal.
