When the ignition switch is ON, the wipers operate as follows.

: To run the wipers for
one cycle, move the lever to the position () and release it. The wipers will operate continuously if the lever is held in this position.

O: Wipers off

--- : Wipers operate intermittently at the same wiping interval. Use this mode in light rain or mist. To change the speed setting, turn the speed control knob.

1: Normal wiper speed

2: High wiper speed

NOTE If a large amount of snow or ice has built up on the windshield, defrost the windshield for about 10 minutes, or until the snow and/or ice is removed, before using the wipers to ensure proper operation.

Automatic wiper speed control (if equipped)

A rain sensor located in the upper corner of the windshield detects the amount of rain and controls the wiping cycle at appropriate intervals. The heavier the rain, the faster the wipers operate. When the rain stops, the wipers stop.

To change the speed setting, turn the speed control knob (1).

If the wiper switch is set to AUTO when the ignition switch is in the ON position, the wiper will make one sweep to perform a system self-check.

When the wipers are no longer needed, set the wiper switch to OFF (O).

CAUTION When the ignition switch is ON and the wiper switch is set to AUTO, take care in the following situations to avoid injury to your hands or other body parts:
  • Do not touch the upper corner of the windshield opposite the rain sensor.
  • Do not wipe the upper corner of the windshield with a damp or wet cloth.
  • Do not apply pressure to the windshield glass.
CAUTION When washing the vehicle, set the wiper switch to OFF (O) to stop wiper operation. If the wipers are in AUTO mode while the vehicle is being washed, they may operate and be damaged. Do not remove the sensor cover located in the upper corner of the windshield on the passenger side. This may damage system components, and such damage may not be covered by your vehicle warranty.

When starting the vehicle in winter, set the wiper switch to OFF (O). Otherwise, the wipers may operate and ice may damage the blades. Before operating the windshield wipers, always remove all snow and ice from the windshield and defrost it properly.
