Turn Signal/Hazard Flasher
* These models are equipped with an airbag. The airbag may deploy (inflate) at any time while it is connected to the battery. To prevent accidental deployment (and injury), turn the ignition key to the LOCK position and disconnect the negative battery cable before beginning work on the airbag. After disconnecting the battery, wait at least two minutes before starting work (the airbag module has a capacitor unit that must fully discharge). For more information, see Subsection 12.24.
* If your vehicle's stereo has an anti-theft code system, make sure you know the radio activation code before disconnecting the battery.
Inspection
PROCEDURE
1. The turn signal/hazard flasher, a small rectangular component located on the central fuse block, provides the intermittent operation of the turn signal lamps.
2. When the flasher operates normally, you should hear fairly loud clicks as it operates. If the turn signals do not work on one side of the vehicle and the flasher does not make the characteristic clicks, one of the lamps is burned out.
3. If the turn signals do not work on both sides of the vehicle, the fuse has likely blown, the flasher is faulty, the switch is broken, or there is a poor connection somewhere in the circuit. If you find that the turn signal fuse has blown when checking the fuse block, check the electrical circuit for a short circuit before installing a new fuse.
Replacement
PROCEDURE
1. To replace the circuit breaker, simply remove it from the fuse block.
2. Make sure the new circuit breaker is exactly the same model and type as the old one. Compare them with each other before installing the new circuit breaker.
3. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
