The electrical circuits of the vehicle are protected by a set of fuses, circuit breakers and fusible links.
The fuse blocks are located under the instrument panel, on the left or right (on some models) side wall, and in the engine compartment near the battery (see illustrations Central Fuse Block, Relay and Fuse Block and Location of Fuse Block on Models with Air Conditioning).
Each fuse protects its own circuit, and the fuse panel has a designation of the circuit protected by that fuse. Three types of miniature fuses are used in the fuse block. These compact fuses with plate-shaped terminals can be removed and installed by hand.
If any electrical component stops working, always check the fuse first.
A blown fuse is easy to identify by looking at the connecting wire through the transparent plastic body. Inspect the fuse body for damage (see illustrations Type A Fuse, Type B Fuse and Type C Fuse). To check whether a Type A fuse is blown, note that if it is blown, its terminal blades protrude from the fuse body.
When replacing a blown fuse, always use a new fuse with the same rating as the old one. Fuses of different ratings are physically interchangeable, but only fuses of the specified rating must be used. Replacing a fuse with one of a higher or lower rating is not recommended. Different electrical circuits require different protection.
The fuse rating is marked on the fuse itself. If a new fuse blows immediately, find the cause before installing a new fuse. The most likely cause of a blown fuse is a short circuit in the circuit, caused by a broken or worn wire.
