Power Mirrors

(ALT Fuse, AM1 Fuse)
2. Outside Rear View Mirror
3. Ignition Switch
4. Fuse Block No. 1 (Cigarette Lighter and Radio Fuse)
5. Mirror Position Switch

Power mirrors use two motors to adjust the mirror position: one for vertical adjustment and one for horizontal adjustment.
The mirror switch has a selector that allows switching control between the left and right mirrors. With the ignition switch in the ACC position, lower the windows and check the switch operation in all positions (mirror up/down and left/right adjustment) for both the left and right outside rear view mirrors.

Inspection

PROCEDURE
1. Listen for the sound of the motors that adjust the mirror positions.
2. If you hear the motors but the mirrors do not move, the drive inside the mirror is probably faulty. Remove and disassemble the mirror to locate and correct the cause of the fault.
3. If the fuse is good, remove the vent grille/switch panel from the instrument panel to access the back of the mirror position switch, without disconnecting the wires. Turn the ignition on and check for voltage at the switch. Voltage should be present at only one terminal.
4. If there is no voltage at the switch, check the wires between the fuse block and the switch for an open circuit or short circuit (see table Tester Connection and Rear View Mirror Switch Continuity Chart).
5. If voltage is present at the switch, disconnect it. Check it for continuity in all switch positions. If the switch has no continuity, replace it.
6. Reconnect the switch. Locate the wire running from the switch to the vehicle body ground. Without disconnecting the switch, connect a jumper wire between this wire and vehicle ground. If the mirrors then operate, restore the switch ground connection.
7. If the mirror still does not operate, remove it and check the mirror wires for voltage. Check voltage with the ignition on, and the switch set to operate the mirror being checked. Move the switch through all positions. One of the wires connecting the switch and the mirror should have voltage in any switch position except OFF (neutral).
8. If there is no voltage on the mirror wires in any switch position, check the wires between the mirror and the switch for open circuits or short circuits.
9. If voltage is present, remove the mirror and check its operation by connecting jumper wires. Replace the mirror if it is faulty.
