PROCEDURE
1. Clamp the cylinder head in a vise by the bracket attached to one of the exhaust manifold studs.
2. Remove the camshaft. Loosen the camshaft bearing cap bolts in a crisscross pattern from the outer edges toward the center and remove the caps.

3. A special tool, shown in the illustration, is required to remove and install the valves. Compress the spring until the valve keepers can be removed. (A pipe section can also be used to remove the valves.)
4. Remove the spring seats and springs. Remove the valve stem oil seals and discard them immediately, as they must be replaced. Keep all parts of each valve together.
5. Place the valves in an inverted cardboard box and label each valve with its number next to it.
6. Remove all remaining components from the cylinder head.
