Parking Assistant. Principle. General. Safety notes. Overview
The Parking Assistant Plus in the BMW 5 Series G30 combines Surround View, rear view camera, Park Distance Control and semi-automatic steering into one integrated system. The vehicle detects suitable parking spaces and takes over steering independently, while the driver controls the brake and accelerator. Via the Control Display, the driver receives clear instructions, visual aids and acoustic signals. The additional 3D view with obstacle markings improves overview. Pulling out of parking spaces is also supported, a function that is especially useful in tight urban areas. The system stores recently used parking spaces and recognizes them when approaching. With Parking Assistant Plus, parking becomes precise, convenient and significantly safer.
Principle

The system supports parking in the following situations:
- Parallel parking at the side of the road.
- Reverse perpendicular parking.
General
Operation
Operating the Parking Assistant is divided into three steps:
- Switch on and activate.
- Searching for a parking space.
- Parking.
The system status and required instructions are shown on the Control Display.
Ultrasonic sensors measure parking spaces on both sides of the vehicle.
Manual transmission
The Parking Assistant calculates the optimal parking path and takes over steering during the parking maneuver.
Steptronic transmission
The Parking Assistant calculates the optimal parking path and takes over the following functions during the parking maneuver:
- Steering.
- Accelerating and braking.
- Shifting gears.
Keep the Park Assistant button pressed for the duration of the parking maneuver. The parking maneuver is carried out automatically.
Remote-controlled parking
In suitable perpendicular parking spaces, the vehicle can be parked in and out remotely.
Safety notes
WARNING The system does not relieve you of your own responsibility to correctly assess the traffic situation. Due to system limitations, the system cannot always respond appropriately on its own in all traffic situations.
There is a risk of accident. Adapt driving style to traffic conditions. Observe traffic and intervene actively in relevant situations. WARNING When a tow hitch is in use, the Parking Assistant may cause damage due to concealed sensors. There is a risk of accident or risk of property damage.
Do not use the Parking Assistant when towing a trailer or when using the tow hitch, e.g. with a bicycle carrier. NOTICE The Parking Assistant may steer over or up curbs. There is a risk of property damage. Observe traffic and intervene actively in relevant situations.
The safety notes for Park Distance Control PDC also apply, see page 207.

Ultrasonic sensors

The four side ultrasonic sensors, arrows, and the ultrasonic sensors of PDC in the bumpers are used to measure parking spaces and determine distances to obstacles.
The parking assistant in the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 supports the driver when parking parallel and perpendicular to the road. Depending on the transmission type, it takes over steering or also accelerator, brake and gear selection. Thanks to precise ultrasonic sensors, the system detects suitable parking spaces and guides the vehicle safely into them.
Particularly convenient is the remote-controlled parking function, which allows the vehicle to park in or out of narrow spaces independently. The driver remains fully responsible and can interrupt the parking maneuver at any time.
FAQQuestion 1: Can the parking assistant be used when a trailer hitch is fitted?
Answer: No. When a trailer hitch or carrier system is in use, the parking assistant should not be used to avoid damage.
Question 2: Does the parking assistant detect curbs?
Answer: The system may steer over or onto curbs, so the driver should also monitor the surroundings.
