Manual speed limiter
The manual speed limiter in the BMW 5 Series G30 allows a maximum driving speed to be set and maintained. Especially in city traffic or where speed limits apply, the system makes driving more relaxed. The limit can be conveniently adjusted using the buttons on the steering wheel. If the set speed is exceeded, a visual or audible warning is given. The function responds flexibly and can be quickly deactivated or interrupted. Ideal for drivers who want to drive consciously and in compliance with regulations.
General
The system can limit the speed from 30 km/h. Below the set speed limit, you can drive without restriction.
Overview
Steering wheel buttons

Operation
Switching on
Press button on steering wheel.
The currently driven speed is adopted as the speed limit.
When switched on while stationary or at low speed, 30 km/h is set as the speed limit.
The marker in the speedometer is set to the corresponding speed.
When the speed limit is switched on, Dynamic Stability Control DSC may be switched on and the driving mode may be changed to COMFORT if necessary.
Switching off
Press button on steering wheel.
The system switches off automatically, e.g. in the following situations:
- When the engine is switched off.
- When cruise control is switched on.
- When certain programs are activated via the Driving Experience Control switch.
The displays go out.
Interrupting
With reverse gear engaged or in neutral, the system is interrupted.
Changing the speed limit

Press the rocker switch up or down repeatedly until the desired speed limit is set.
- Each tap of the rocker switch up to the pressure point increases or decreases the speed limit by 1 km/h.
- Each press of the rocker switch beyond the pressure point increases or decreases the speed limit to the next 10 km/h step shown on the speedometer.
When the set speed limit is reached or unintentionally exceeded, e.g. when driving downhill, the vehicle does not brake actively.
If a speed limit is set while driving that is below the current vehicle speed, the vehicle coasts until its speed drops below the speed limit.
Vehicles with Active Cruise Control, ACC, and Speed Limit Assist, see page 202: When the Manual Speed Limiter is active, a speed restriction change detected by Speed Limit Assist can be adopted as the new speed limit for the Speed Limiter.
Exceeding the speed limit
If the vehicle speed exceeds the set speed limit, a warning is issued.
The speed limit can be exceeded deliberately. In this situation, no warning is issued.
Press the accelerator pedal fully down to deliberately exceed the set speed limit.
The limit becomes active again automatically as soon as the current speed drops below the set speed limit.
Warning when the speed limit is exceeded
Visual warning
When the speed limit is exceeded: the indicator lamp in the instrument cluster flashes for as long as the vehicle is driving above the set speed limit.
Audible warning
- If the set speed limit is unintentionally exceeded, a signal sounds.
- If the speed limit is reduced below the current vehicle speed while driving, the signal sounds after a short time.
- If the speed limit is deliberately exceeded by pressing the accelerator pedal, no signal sounds.
Displays in the instrument cluster
Display in the speedometer

- Marker green: system is active.
- Marker orange/white: system is interrupted.
- No marker: system is switched off.
Indicator lamp

- Indicator lamp on: the system is switched on.
- Indicator lamp flashing: the set speed limit has been exceeded.
- Indicator lamp grey: the system is interrupted.
Status display
The display of the set speed limit fades out after a short time.
The manual speed limiter of the BMW 5 G30/G31 allows the driver to set an individual speed limit that should not be exceeded. Especially when driving through towns or on routes with changing speed restrictions, this system is a practical aid for avoiding fines.
The system can be conveniently operated using the buttons on the steering wheel. A visual and audible warning indicates when the set limit is unintentionally exceeded. When the accelerator pedal is pressed deliberately, the limit can be temporarily overridden, which provides flexibility in critical driving situations.
In this way, the BMW 5 G30/G31 provides more safety and peace of mind in road traffic and actively supports the driver in complying with speed limits.
