Park Distance Control PDC

Park Distance Control (PDC) in the BMW 5 Series (G30) is a versatile aid for parking in tight situations. Sensors at the front, rear and sides of the vehicle detect objects and report the distance by an audible signal and a visual display in the Control Display. Side protection detects lateral obstacles and thus increases parking precision. At short distances in particular, the system emits a continuous tone and helps prevent damage. PDC activates automatically when reverse gear is engaged or when approaching slowly, which makes it ideal for urban maneuvers.

Principle

PDC supports parking. A slow approach to an object in front of or behind the vehicle is indicated by:

• Warning tones.
• Visual display.

With Parking Assistant: obstacles at the side of the vehicle that are detected by the Parking Assistant sensors can be reported, if applicable,

by the side protection function.

The Park Distance Control (PDC) system of the BMW 5 Series G30/G31 makes parking considerably easier by warning the driver of obstacles both visually and audibly. Ultrasonic sensors in the bumpers and vehicle sides reliably detect the surroundings, and the system gives feedback depending on the distance to the object. These precise signals considerably increase safety when maneuvering.

In combination with the Parking Assistant, PDC extends its functionality with side protection, which also detects lateral obstacles. The system works intuitively and allows the driver to adapt warnings to personal needs. In this way, parking becomes noticeably easier, even in tight situations.

Question 1: At what distance does the audible warning sound for obstacles in front of the vehicle?

Answer: The audible warning sounds from approx. 70 cm, and for obstacles behind the vehicle already from approx. 1.50 m.

Question 2: Can I adjust the volume of the warning tones individually?

Answer: Yes, the volume can be adjusted via iDrive in the “Sound” menu, and the setting is saved in the driver profile.
