When the power transistor switches to the "ON" position by a signal from the engine control module (ECM), current is supplied to the primary winding of the ignition coil. When the power transistor switches to the "OFF" position, the current in the primary winding circuit is interrupted and a high voltage is induced in the secondary winding.
