Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Troubleshooting - DTC P0340/P0342/P0343

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
The camshaft position (CMP) sensor detects the moment when the No. 1 cylinder piston reaches top dead center (TDC) on the compression stroke. The ECM uses the CMP sensor signal to determine the starting point of the fuel injection sequence for the individual cylinders.
DTC SET CONDITIONS
[For DTC P0343] The ECM will set DTC P0343 and illuminate the MIL if, within two driving cycles at engine speed above 600 rpm, more than one CMP sensor signal is received over two crankshaft revolutions. This DTC indicates incorrect camshaft position data from the CMP sensor or the ECM while the crankshaft is rotating.
[For DTC P0342] The ECM will set DTC P0342 and illuminate the MIL if, within two driving cycles at engine speed above 600 rpm, no CMP sensor signal is received for 200 crankshaft revolutions. This DTC indicates incorrect camshaft position data from the CMP sensor or the ECM while the crankshaft is rotating.
