RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TROUBLE CODES AND ROAD TEST MODE FOR OBD-II SYSTEM
1. If the same malfunction is detected and remains during two consecutive driving cycles, the MIL will illuminate automatically.
2. The MIL will turn off automatically if the malfunction is not detected during 3 consecutive driving cycles.
3. A diagnostic trouble code is stored in the Engine Control Module memory if the malfunction is detected during two consecutive driving cycles.
The MIL will illuminate after the malfunction is detected in the second driving cycle.
If cylinder misfire is detected, the trouble code will be stored and the MIL will illuminate immediately after the first detection of this malfunction.
4. The diagnostic trouble code will be automatically erased from the Engine Control Module memory if the corresponding malfunction is not detected during 40 subsequent driving cycles.
• "Warm-up cycle" means sufficient engine operation such that the coolant temperature has increased by at least 4.4°C (40°F) to a minimum of 70°C (160°F).
• "Driving cycle" consists of engine start-up and engine operation after the start of closed-loop air-fuel ratio control ("closed-loop").
