DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

The Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor is a highly precise device used to measure the pressure in the engine intake manifold. Inside the sensor there is a metal diaphragm with a small wire attached to it. The diaphragm moves in response to changes in pressure. As the diaphragm moves, the wire attached to it is stretched, changing its own resistance. The engine control module (ECM) supplies a 5 V reference voltage to the MAP sensor and measures the voltage drop of the sensor signal. The sensor signal is output as a voltage value (V). When pressure decreases, the voltage drop across the sensor increases. The MAP sensor signal is used as the air flow sensor signal to determine the volume of air flowing through the engine and is a very important input signal for the engine control module. Based on the sensor signal, the engine control module determines the required fuel injection quantity (basic fuel injector open time) and the ignition timing advance angle.

DTC SET CONDITIONS

The MAP sensor outputs a signal whose voltage is proportional to the pressure in the engine intake manifold. The engine control module (ECM) checks the sensor signal to confirm it is within the permissible range. The ECM will store DTC P0105 and illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) if the sensor signal voltage remains at 4.5 V or higher for 4 seconds, corresponding to intake manifold pressure of 114 kPa or higher, or remains at 1.95 V or lower, corresponding to intake manifold pressure of 50 kPa or lower.
