Inspection

If the idle speed is unstable or the engine stalls, check the ETC module operation using the GDS diagnostic tool. If necessary, clean carbon deposits from the throttle body.
  1. Connect the GDS to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
  2. Select "Vehicle Software Control" > "Inspection/Test" > "ETC Performance Test" in the GDS menu.
  3. Perform the "ETC Module Inspection" procedure as instructed by the message.
  4. If the ETC module or TPS signal inspection result shows NG, clean the ETC module.

Removal

  1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
  2. Remove the air intake hose. (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Intake and Exhaust System")
  3. Disconnect the ETC module connector (A).
  4. Disconnect the coolant hose (A).
  5. Remove the ETC module (B) from the engine after loosening the mounting bolt (A).

Cleaning

  1. Remove the ETC module. (Refer to Engine Control System - "ETC Module".)
  2. Hold the ETC module plate in the open position using a fixing tool.
  3. Clean the contaminated part of the throttle body with a soft, lint-free cloth moistened with cleaner, taking care to prevent foreign material from entering the intake.
    • Do not spray cleaner directly onto the ETC module.
    • Use a soft, lint-free cloth to remove carbon deposits.
    • Be careful not to wipe off the coating (A) around the shaft. If the coating is removed, it may cause poor idle control, excessive air leakage, or foreign material in the shaft bearing.
  4. After cleaning, reinstall the ETC module and perform the ETC module learning procedure. (Refer to Engine Control System - "ETC Module Adjustment".)

Installation

  • Install the component with the specified torque.
  • Note that internal damage may occur if the component is dropped. If the component has been dropped, inspect it before installation.
When cleaning the throttle body, clean the valve and carbon deposits in the bore with a cloth moistened with cleaner.
Do not spray engine cleaner onto the throttle body.
Be careful that fingers or cloth do not get caught in the valve. When installing the throttle body, make sure no foreign material enters the throttle body.
  1. To install, reverse the removal procedure. ETC Throttle Body Mounting Bolt: 7.8 ~ 11.8 N·m

Adjustment

ETC Module Learning Procedure

When replacing the ETC module or reinstalling it, perform the ETC module learning procedure.
  1. Turn the ignition switch or start button to the IG ON position and hold for 1 minute.
  2. After starting the engine, let it idle for 15 minutes.
  3. Turn the ignition switch or start button off and hold for 1 minute.
  4. Restart the engine and check for smooth idle.
DTC codes may be displayed if the ETC module learning procedure is not performed after replacing the ETC module.
