Child seats in the Kia Opirus are installed either with the ISOFIX system or the seat belt, depending on the model. The detailed tables and product examples make it easier to select compatible child seats. By following these instructions, you ensure maximum safety for your small passengers on every journey.

Installation on the rear bench seat

WARNING
  • Before installing a child restraint system, read the user instructions from the child seat manufacturer.
  • Failure to follow the instructions in this owner's manual as well as the user instructions of the child seat manufacturers could increase the risk of injury and the severity of injuries in the event of an accident.
WARNING
  • Never install child restraint systems on the front passenger seat. If the airbag deploys in a collision, a child seated in the front passenger seat could be seriously or fatally injured. Therefore, install child restraint systems only on the rear bench seat of your vehicle.
  • If a child restraint system is not properly secured, the risk of serious or fatal injury to the child seated in it increases considerably in the event of a collision.

2. Route the child seat tether strap over the rear seatback.

If your vehicle is equipped with adjustable head restraints, route the tether strap under the head restraint between its guides.

If your vehicle is not equipped with adjustable head restraints, route the tether strap over the head restraint.

3. Attach the child seat tether strap to the eye of the corresponding anchorage point and tighten the strap to secure the child seat.

Child seats with ISOFIX system and tether strap*

ISOFIX is a standardized attachment system for child restraint systems.

ISOFIX eliminates the need to secure a child restraint system with the standard adult seat belts. Suitably equipped restraint systems are attached more securely, while installation takes less time and is easier.

ISOFIX child seats may only be used if they have vehicle-specific approval that meets the requirements of ECE-R44. For KIA vehicles, the models "Kia ISOFIX GR1 / Kia Duo" and "Römer Duo ISOFIX / Britax Duo ISOFIX" have this approval under ECE-R44.

Both outer rear seats of your vehicle are equipped with two ISOFIX anchorages each. The ISOFIX anchorages are located between the rear seatback and the rear seat cushion. The top tether anchorages for the child seat tether straps are located on the parcel shelf behind the rear seatback.

When installing child seats, make sure the ISOFIX anchorages click into place audibly. Then check by pulling that the anchorages are securely engaged.

Additionally secure the top of the child seat with the corresponding tether strap to the matching anchorage point on the parcel shelf.

When installing an ISOFIX child seat, always also observe the user instructions of the respective manufacturer.

WARNING

If the ISOFIX anchorages in the vehicle are used to secure a child restraint system on a rear seat, the buckle tongues of all unused rear seat belts must be locked firmly into their buckles. In addition, the retracted webbing must be routed behind the child seat so that the child cannot grab the webbing and pull it out of the retractor.

Seat belt tongues that are not locked into their buckles would allow the child to unreel the belt from the retractor. This could cause the child to be strangled by the belt in the child seat. Serious or fatal injuries could result.
