Hood release

1. Pull the hood release lever to release the hood. The hood should rise slightly.

Only open the hood after parking the vehicle on a level surface, turning off the engine, and shifting the gear selector to P (Park) on automatic transmission or to 1st or Reverse on manual transmission, and

   Go to the front of the vehicle, lift the hood slightly, push the secondary latch (1) under the center of the hood, then lift the hood fully (2).

   Lift the hood. It will open fully on its own once it has been raised about halfway.

Closing the hood

1. Before closing the hood, make sure that:

• all caps in the engine compartment are properly installed;
• gloves, rags, or any other combustible material are removed from the engine compartment;

2. Lower the hood halfway and press firmly on it to lock it in place.

• Before closing the hood, make sure to remove all obstructions from the opening. Closing the hood with obstructions in the opening could cause damage or serious injury.
• Never leave gloves, rags, or any other combustible material in the engine compartment.

• Always make sure the hood is securely closed before driving. If it is not properly latched, it could open while you are driving and completely block your view. You could then have an accident.
• Do not drive the vehicle with the hood open. The hood blocks your view and could fall closed or be damaged.
