Opening the Trunk

  • Press and hold the trunk release button for more than one second (or use the smart key).
  • Press the trunk handle button with the smart key.
  • Once the trunk has been opened and closed, it locks automatically.

  • To open the trunk from inside the vehicle, pull the trunk release lever on the trunk lid panel.
Once the trunk has been opened and closed, it locks automatically.

NOTICE

In cold or wet weather, ice may prevent the trunk lock or mechanism from operating properly.

WARNING

The trunk lid will rise.

Make sure there are no objects or people near the rear of the vehicle when opening the trunk.

CAUTION

Be sure to close the trunk before driving the vehicle. The trunk lift mechanism and hardware may be damaged if the trunk is not closed before driving.

Trunk Lid Emergency Opening Cable

  1. Lift the cover with the tip of a small flat-blade screwdriver or key.
  2. Pull the cable hook.
  3. After use, close the cover securely.
CAUTION
  • Do not use while driving; unexpected problems may occur.
  • Use the tip of a screwdriver or key to open it. Opening it by hand may damage it or cause injury. Once the cover is open, keep it in a safe place.
  • If you experience problems with the trunk, have the vehicle inspected and repaired at an authorized Kia dealer.

Closing the Trunk

To close the trunk, lower the trunk lid and press it until it latches. Always try to lift the lid to make sure the trunk is securely closed.

WARNING

The trunk lid should always be kept fully closed while the vehicle is running. If left open or partially open, toxic exhaust gases may enter the vehicle and cause serious illness or death.

Trunk Emergency Opening

Your vehicle is equipped with an emergency opening cable inside the trunk. If someone is accidentally locked in the trunk, pulling the handle activates the trunk latch mechanism and opens the lid.

WARNING
  • In an emergency, check the location of the emergency opening lever inside the trunk and become familiar with its operation so that you can open the trunk if you are accidentally locked inside.
  • No one should be allowed to enter the vehicle trunk. The trunk is a very dangerous place in the event of an accident.
  • Use the emergency opening lever only in an emergency. Exercise great caution, especially when the vehicle is moving.
