Idle Speed and Maximum Speed
GENERAL INFORMATION
Inspection/Adjustment of Idle Speed and Maximum Speed. Since diesel engines have no ignition system, a special photoelectric tachometer is required.PROCEDURE
1. Warm up the engine to operating temperature. Coolant temperature must be at least +80 °C.
2. Electrical consumers (radio, lights) must be switched off.
3. Connect the tachometer.
4. Run the engine at high speed 2–3 times, then let it idle.
5. Apply the parking brake.
6. Check the idle speed.

7. If the idle speed is incorrect, loosen the locknut and adjust the speed by turning the adjusting screw (1). After adjustment, tighten the locknut.
Warning: Do not turn other screws. Inspection/Adjustment of Maximum Speed
PROCEDURE
1. Check the accelerator linkage adjustment.
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and check the maximum speed.
3. If the maximum speed is incorrect, loosen the locknut and adjust the speed by turning the adjusting screw. After adjustment, tighten the locknut and install a new seal.
Warning: Do not turn other screws.
4. Disconnect the tachometer.
Dashpot Adjustment
PROCEDURE
1. Start and warm up the engine until the coolant temperature gauge pointer reaches the middle of the scale.
2. Connect the tachometer.
3. Raise the engine speed with the lever and release it slowly until the adjusting screw contacts the dashpot. Engine speed should then be 1300 rpm.
4. If necessary, set the required speed using the adjusting screw.
