Winter Operation
GENERAL INFORMATION
Fuel additives are not used in diesel engines, even in winter. When the ambient temperature drops, diesel fuel loses fluidity due to paraffin deposits. Diesel fuel becomes thick, like honey. For this reason, mineral oil producers add winter additives to diesel fuel that improve fluidity and ensure engine starting at ambient temperatures down to –15 °C. At very low ambient temperatures, however, it may be necessary to add a small amount of gasoline, especially if "summer" diesel fuel has been filled into the tank.Gasoline should be added, if possible, before paraffin deposits begin to form.
Add only regular gasoline, not premium gasoline.
Due to its high flammability, prepare the mixture only in the vehicle fuel tank for safety reasons. If possible, pour in regular gasoline first, then diesel fuel.
Since adding gasoline reduces engine output, add only the amount of gasoline that is actually necessary.
Temperature / Summer diesel fuel / Winter diesel fuel: from 0 to –15 °C: max. 30% / from –15 to –25 °C: max. 30%. Example: With a total fuel quantity of 30 L, the portion of regular fuel may be a maximum of 9 L.
If the engine does not start due to thickened diesel fuel.
PROCEDURE
1. Tow the vehicle into a warm garage.
2. Remove the fuel filter and warm it in a hot water bath. Warning: Never heat the injection equipment with a blowtorch. Risk of explosion!
