BLIS (Blind Spot Information) in the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) provides important support when changing lanes in heavy traffic. BLIS (Blind Spot Information) is a camera-based information system that, under certain conditions, helps the driver notice vehicles in the so-called blind spot that are moving in the same direction as their own vehicle.

The system is designed to provide optimum performance when driving in heavy traffic on multi-lane roads.

WARNING

The system is an additional feature and not a substitute for safe driving or for using the rear-view mirrors. It can never replace the driver's attention and responsibility. Responsibility for a safe lane change always rests with the driver.

CAUTION

The lamp lights up on the side of the vehicle on which the system has detected a vehicle. If a vehicle is overtaking on both sides at the same time, both lamps light up.

Maintenance

For optimum function, the BLIS camera lenses38 must be clean. The lenses can be cleaned with a soft cloth or a damp sponge. Clean the lenses carefully so that they are not damaged.

IMPORTANT

The lenses are electrically heated to melt ice or snow.

Brush snow off the lenses if necessary.

The BLIS system (Blind Spot Information) in the Volvo S80 (2nd gen.) helps the driver when changing lanes by detecting vehicles in the blind spot. An indicator lamp in the mirror shows when a vehicle is within the monitoring area.

BLIS is a driver assistance system and does not replace checking the mirrors or the driver's attention. In heavy traffic in particular, however, it is a valuable addition for greater safety.
