Driver assistance

Road Sign Information (RSI)*

~1min read

The Road Sign Information (RSI) system in the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) helps the driver keep track of speed-related signs. This section explains how the system detects road signs such as speed limits, overtaking bans and motorway end signs and shows them in the instrument cluster. It is particularly emphasized that RSI is only a supplementary aid and that the driver remains responsible for complying with traffic regulations. Notes on the display logic and sign priority conclude the section.

The Road Sign Information (RSI) function helps the driver remember which speed-related road signs the vehicle has passed.

The RSI function reports road signs with information on the current speed, the start or end of a motorway or car-only road, overtaking bans, etc.

If the vehicle passes both a motorway/car-only road sign and a speed limit sign, RSI chooses to display the speed limit.

WARNING

RSI does not work in all situations and is intended only as a supplementary aid.

The driver is ultimately always responsible for operating the vehicle safely and in compliance with applicable laws and traffic regulations.

The system is a valuable assistance tool, but it does not replace the driver's responsibility. Especially in difficult weather or visibility conditions, do not rely solely on RSI.
