Road Sign Information (RSI)* - Operation
In the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016), Road Sign Information (RSI) provides the driver with a clear display of detected road signs directly in the instrument cluster. This section describes operation, the display of supplementary signs and how the system responds to changing road signs. It also explains how RSI reacts to turn signal and windshield wiper use and which individual settings are available in the MY CAR menu. Notes on activating warnings for speeding support safe use.
The Road Sign Information (RSI) function helps the driver remember which speed-related road signs the vehicle has passed.
Operation of the function:

Registered speed information2.
When RSI has detected a speed limit sign, the sign appears as a symbol in the instrument cluster.
1 The road signs shown in the instrument cluster vary by market – the illustrations in this manual show only some examples.

* Option/accessory. For more information, see "Introduction".
Together with the sign for the applicable speed limit, a sign with an overtaking ban may also be displayed.
Limit or end of motorway or car-only road
In situations where RSI detects a road sign that ends a speed limit – or contains other speed-related information (e.g. motorway ends), the corresponding sign is shown in the instrument cluster for approx. 10 seconds:
Examples of such road signs are:
End of all restrictions.
End of motorway.
Afterwards, road sign information is hidden until the next road sign affecting a speed limit is detected.
Supplementary signs

Example of supplementary signs2
Different speed limits are sometimes given for the same road – a supplementary sign may indicate the conditions under which the speeds apply. For example, this may concern particularly accident-prone roads in rain and/or fog.
The supplementary rain sign is only displayed when the windshield wipers are in use.
2 The road signs shown in the instrument cluster vary by market – the illustrations in this manual show only some examples.
On certain markets, the speed applicable to an exit is shown with a supplementary sign featuring an arrow.
A speed limit sign linked to this type of supplementary sign is only displayed when the driver uses the turn signal.
Speed limits may apply only after a certain distance or at a certain time of day, for example.
The driver is alerted to this condition by a supplementary sign symbol below the speed symbol.
Display of additional information
A supplementary sign symbol in the form of an empty frame below the speed symbol in the instrument cluster means that RSI has detected a supplementary sign with additional information about the current speed limit.
Setting in MY CAR
There are options for RSI in the MY CAR menu system, see MY CAR.
Road Sign Information On/Off

The display of speed-limit symbols in the instrument cluster can be switched off. The function can be activated or deactivated in the MY CAR menu system. For a description of the menu system, see MY CAR.
Speed warning

If desired, the driver can receive a warning when the applicable speed limit is exceeded by 5 km/h or more. The warning is shown by the applicable speed limit symbol flashing when the speed is exceeded. The function can be activated or deactivated in the MY CAR menu system. For a description of the menu system, see MY CAR.
