Driver Alert Control (DAC)* - Symbols and messages. Lane Departure Warning (LDW)*

~3min read

Driver Alert Control (DAC) in the Volvo S80 (2nd generation, 2013–2016) provides important information on detecting drowsiness and unsafe driving behavior. This section describes the meaning of the symbols and messages in the instrument cluster and how the system responds to different driving situations. It emphasizes that the driver remains responsible for paying attention at all times, even when supported by DAC and Lane Departure Warning. Information on cleaning the camera sensor and interpreting warning messages is also included.

Driver Alert Control (DAC)* - Symbols and messages

DAC may display symbols and text messages in the instrument cluster or in the center console display in various situations.

Examples are shown below:

Lane departure warning (LDW)*

The purpose of Lane Departure Warning is to reduce the risk of the vehicle unintentionally drifting out of its lane on motorways and other major roads in certain situations.

LDW operation

(Die Abb. ist schematisch und nicht modellspezifisch.)
(The illustration is schematic and not model-specific.)

A camera detects the lane markings on the road.

If the vehicle crosses a side boundary, the driver is warned by an audible signal.

CAUTION

The driver is warned only once each time the wheels cross a lane marking. If a lane marking is already between the wheels, no alarm sounds.

WARNING

Lane Departure Warning is only an aid for the driver and does not function in all driving situations or under all traffic, weather and road conditions.

The driver is always responsible for operating the vehicle safely and for complying with applicable laws and traffic regulations.

Driver Alert Control (DAC) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) in the Volvo S80 (2nd gen) support the driver with clear symbols and messages in the instrument cluster. They indicate unsafe driving or technical limitations.

Both systems are valuable aids, but they do not replace the driver's attention and responsibility. They contribute to greater safety, especially on long journeys.

Volvo combines advanced technology with a clear focus on supporting the driver without taking control.
