Remote starting the engine

To start the engine by remote start, the vehicle must be locked and the hood must be closed.

Proceed as follows:

  1. Briefly press button (2) on the key.
  2. Immediately afterwards, press and hold button (3) once for at least 2 seconds.

If the conditions for ERS are met, the following occurs:

  1. The turn signal lamps flash rapidly several times.
  2. The engine starts.
  3. A successful engine start is indicated by the turn signal lamps lighting continuously for 3 seconds.
CAUTION

After a remote start, the vehicle remains locked, but the motion sensor* is deactivated.

With PCC6 key

The indicator lamp for welcome lighting7 flashes several times when the button is pressed and then lights continuously once all ERS conditions are met. However, this does not mean that the ERS has started the engine.

To check whether the ERS has started the engine, the user can press button (5) - if the engine is running, buttons (2) and (3) will light up.

Active functions

When the engine is remote started, the following functions are active:

  • Ventilation system
  • Audio/video system
  • Automatic lighting.

Deactivated functions

When the engine is remote started, the following functions are deactivated:

  • Headlights
  • Position lights
  • License plate lighting
  • Windshield wipers.

ERS shutdown

The following factors cause an engine started by ERS to shut off:

  • Button (1), (2) or (4) on the transponder key is pressed
  • The vehicle is unlocked
  • A door is opened
  • The accelerator or brake pedal is pressed
  • The selector lever is moved out of position P
  • The period activated by the ERS is longer than 15 minutes.

When an engine started by the ERS is switched off, the turn signal lamps light for 3 seconds without flashing.

Operating the remote start (ERS) on the Volvo S80 (2nd gen) is simple and safe. Using button combinations on the key or via Volvo On Call, the engine can be started remotely to prepare the interior. The system shows its status through turn signal and button indicators.

The safety functions prevent unintended use: opening a door or pressing the pedal shuts off the engine. This keeps the function safe and convenient.
