PROCEDURE

If the battery seems weak despite the correct electrolyte level, check the state of discharge. To do this, determine the specific gravity of the battery acid. You will need a hydrometer for this check.

Unscrew the battery cell caps.

Draw enough electrolyte into the hydrometer so that the float (spindle) floats freely.

1.28 kg/l – battery fully charged; 1.20 kg/l – half charged; 1.12 kg/l – discharged.
