Battery Removal

Battery removal on models with 4- and 5-cylinder engines. Remove the battery cover (4), disconnect the gas vent hose (arrow). Disconnect the negative terminal (2) first, then disconnect the positive terminal (1). Now loosen the bolt (3) on the retaining plate at the bottom of the battery.

Battery removal on 6-cylinder engine models is the same as on the other versions:

1 – positive terminal;
2 – negative terminal;
3 – retaining plate bolt. The gas vent hose is hidden by the wing edge in the illustration.

PROCEDURE

Deactivate the anti-theft system and radio code so that they can be reactivated after the battery is reconnected.

Models with 4- and 5-cylinder engines: remove the battery cover after loosening both retaining clamps on the right and left, or quick-release fasteners.

Models with 6-cylinder engines: to remove the battery cover, release the plastic clips at the bottom, one towards the engine and one towards the wing.

Always disconnect the negative cable first to prevent a short circuit during further work on the battery.

Loosen the nut on the negative cable terminal and disconnect the terminal from the negative post.

Loosen and remove the positive cable terminal.

Unscrew the bolts of the retaining plate at the bottom of the battery, remove the bolts and the plate.

Disconnect the plastic hose from the central gas vent.

Remove the battery.

When installing, connect the positive cable first, then the negative cable.

Without applying force, it is practically impossible to mix up the battery cable terminals, because the positive terminal is thicker than the negative terminal.

Switch the alarm and radio back on.
