Power steering leak check
If the fluid level in the reservoir is low, check the entire power steering system as soon as possible. Otherwise, the power steering may suddenly stop working while driving. The check procedure is as follows:

PROCEDURE

Turn the steering wheel fully to the right once and fully to the left once. This builds the highest possible pressure in the power steering system, making any leaks more apparent.

Hold the steering wheel at one of its full-lock positions and check the following areas for leaks:
Rotary valve. It is located approximately where the steering column connects to the steering gear. In this case, fluid leaks into the passenger compartment under the dashboard on the front bulkhead.

Leakage at the seal of the toothed rack or the seal in the left tie rod end. To check, loosen the boot clamps and slide the boot aside.

At the hydraulic pump. To locate the leak, it may be necessary to clean the engine before checking.

At the pipe connections. Check each connection individually and retighten as necessary.
