EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM
During normal vehicle operation, no special care is required, except for accidental refueling with unleaded fuel.
Only in certain exceptional cases should the following recommendations be observed:
- The catalytic converter is protected by additional heat shields. Do not remove them or reduce their number. Do not attach anything to them.
- Due to the high temperature of the system, especially after driving on rough roads, do not park the vehicle where it may come into contact with flammable materials.
Severe overheating can damage the catalytic converter, therefore
- Do not tow the vehicle for an extended period to start the engine when the catalytic converter is hot.
- Do not turn off the ignition until the vehicle has started moving in any gear.
- If a malfunction in the ignition system is detected while driving (indicated by engine operation), reduce speed immediately and seek assistance at the nearest service station.
In all of the above operating conditions, unburned fuel may enter the catalytic converter, ignite there, and thus damage the catalytic converter.
