With the different camera views of the BMW 5 Series (7th generation), drivers get a comprehensive view of the vehicle surroundings. From side view and rear view camera to Panorama View, all views can be adjusted via the iDrive system. Automatic camera switching selects the optimal view depending on the driving situation. The movable camera view, which can be controlled intuitively via a circular menu, is particularly helpful. Brightness and contrast can also be adjusted individually. For precise maneuvering and parking, functions such as obstacle markings, zoom on the trailer hitch and car wash view provide additional support. The system responds reliably, but when weather conditions or blocked lenses occur, the driver must remain attentive.

General

Several cameras capture the area from different selectable views.

Additionally, assistance functions, e.g.

guide lines, are overlaid in the display.

The following camera views can be displayed:

  • Automatic camera view: Depending on the driving situation, the system automatically displays the appropriate camera view.
  • Rear view camera: Shows the area behind the vehicle.
  • Side view right and left: Shows the areas to the side of the vehicle.
  • Movable camera view via iDrive.
  • Panorama View: Shows crossing traffic, e.g. at junctions and exits, depending on the gear currently engaged.
