Clearing ECM/PCM Memory
PROCEDURE

1. When a trouble code is stored in the PCM memory, the Check Engine lamp on the instrument cluster illuminates. The code remains stored in the module until power is disconnected from it. To clear the module memory, turn the ignition off and remove the 7.5 A fuse No. 13 (BACK-UP) from the junction block located in the right side of the engine compartment for 10 to 15 seconds (refer to the Body Electrical section). If necessary, clearing the OBD system memory can be performed by an automotive service specialist.
Do not clear the OBD memory by disconnecting the negative battery cable, as this will erase the engine calibration settings and cause unstable engine idle speed for a period after the first start.
2. Make sure the system memory is cleared before installing new emission control components on the engine. If the fault memory is not cleared before starting the system after replacing a faulty sensor, the PCM will store a new trouble code. Clearing the memory allows the processor to adjust to the new parameters. During the first 10 to 20 minutes after the engine is first started, engine idle speed may be somewhat unstable.
