Driver and Passenger Safety

Recommendations for Pregnant Women

~2min read

Protecting a pregnant woman in a traffic accident is the best way to protect the unborn child. Therefore, when riding in a vehicle (as driver or passenger), a pregnant woman must always wear a seat belt, remembering that the lap portion of the belt should be positioned as low as possible across the hips.

A pregnant woman driving the vehicle should sit upright with the seat moved as far back from the steering wheel as possible, but without compromising her ability to control the vehicle. A pregnant woman occupying the front passenger seat should move the seat as far back as possible.

This will significantly reduce the risk of injury to the woman and her unborn child in the event of an accident or airbag deployment.

At each visit to your doctor during pregnancy, ask whether it is safe for you to drive.

Additional Safety Precautions

Never allow passengers to sit on the folded rear seatback. Failure to follow this precaution may result in serious injury to these occupants in an accident.

Do not allow passengers to stand on the seats or change seats while the vehicle is moving.

An unbelted passenger may be thrown forcibly against interior components or other passengers in a collision or sudden stop, and may also be ejected from the vehicle.

Never use the same seat belt to restrain two people at the same time. Failure to follow this precaution may result in serious injury to these occupants in an accident.

Do not place any objects between the seat belt and the occupant. Installing add-on items, such as pressure pads or devices that change the position of the shoulder portion of the belt, may reduce the effectiveness of the seat belts and increase the risk of injury in an accident.

Do not place hard or sharp objects between yourself and the front airbag. Carrying hard or sharp objects on your lap, or driving with a pipe or other sharp object in your mouth, may result in serious injury in an accident.

Do not place your hands near the airbag locations.

Your hands may be injured if an airbag deploys.

Do not attach objects to the airbag covers. Any object placed on or attached to covers marked "SRS AIRBAG" will interfere with proper airbag operation and may be thrown into the cabin when the airbag deploys.

Do not place hard objects near the doors. When a side or curtain airbag deploys, a cup holder or any other hard object located near the door may be thrown into the cabin and cause injury.

If your vehicle is equipped with curtain airbags, do not hang clothes hangers or heavy objects on the hooks. Otherwise, you risk injury when the curtain airbag deploys.
