Supplemental Restraint System Components
The airbag system consists of the following components:
Two front airbags.
The driver's airbag is located under the steering wheel hub cover, and the front passenger's airbag is located behind the instrument panel. The locations of both airbags are marked with "SRS AIRBAG" (see page 28).
Two side airbags for the driver and front passenger. The airbags are located in the outboard sides of the front seatbacks.
The locations of both airbags are marked with "SIDE AIRBAG" (see page 29).
Two curtain airbags (inflatable curtains), located on each side of the vehicle (on some models).
The airbags are built into the roof above the door windows. "SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG" labels are located on the front and rear pillars on both sides (see page 30).
Automatic pretensioners for the driver and front passenger seat belts (page 24).
Sensors that respond to medium and severe frontal and side impacts.
The sensors can detect whether the driver and front passenger seat belts are fastened or not (see page 22).
A high-technology electronic system that constantly monitors and records information from the sensors, the SRS electronic control unit, the airbag inflators, the seat belt pretensioners, and the driver and passenger seat belt usage while the ignition is on.
Warning lamp on the instrument panel that indicates a malfunction of the airbags, sensors or seat belt pretensioners (see page 30).
An independent backup power source designed to supply the vehicle's main electrical system in the event that it fails as a result of a collision.
