Driver and Passenger Safety

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Hazard

~1min read

Engine exhaust gas contains carbon monoxide. With an intact exhaust system and proper vehicle operation, engine exhaust gas must not enter the passenger compartment.

Inspect the exhaust system components and the tightness of the exhaust pipe connections in the following cases:

During routine engine oil change, when the vehicle is raised on a lift.

When a noticeable change in the exhaust system noise is heard.

After an accident in which components located under the vehicle body may have been damaged.

WARNING

Carbon monoxide is a toxic gas. Inhaling carbon monoxide causes loss of consciousness and may result in death.

Avoid staying in enclosed, poorly ventilated areas or performing work that requires breathing air containing carbon monoxide.

In enclosed areas with poor ventilation, such as a garage, carbon monoxide concentration can increase rapidly. Therefore, never leave the engine running with the garage door closed. Even with the garage door open, do not leave the engine running for extended periods.

Driving with the luggage compartment door open may allow engine exhaust gas to enter the passenger compartment and create a dangerous situation. If you must drive with the luggage compartment open for any reason, fully open all windows and turn on the heating and ventilation system (see the recommendations below).

If you must remain in a stationary vehicle with the engine idling (even in an open area), operate the heating and air conditioning system as follows:

1. Select the fresh air intake mode.
2. Select theвентиляции салона.
cabin ventilation mode.
3. Set the fan to high speed.
4. Set the temperature control to a comfortable level.
