Seat Belt Pretensioners

To provide additional protection for the driver and front passenger from injury, the front seats are equipped with seat belt pretensioners.

When the system is activated, the belts instantly tighten, firmly holding the driver and front passenger against the seatbacks.

The pretensioners are designed to activate in an impact of sufficient force to deploy the front airbags. If the front airbags deploy in a collision, the seat belt pretensioners also deploy at the same time.

If the side airbags or curtain airbags deploy in a collision, only the seat belt pretensioners on the corresponding side of the vehicle deploy at the same time.

After the pretensioners are activated, the seat belts will remain tensioned until they are unbuckled in the normal manner.

If there is a malfunction in the seat belt pretensioner system, the SRS indicator on the instrument panel will come on (see page 30).
