Manual Transmission - Reverse Gear Lockout
The manual transmission is equipped with a lockout device that prevents direct shifting from any forward gear into reverse. If you cannot engage reverse gear with the vehicle stationary, perform the following steps:

1. Depress the clutch pedal. Move the shift lever in the neutral slot toward first/second gear, then try to engage reverse gear.
2. If you still cannot engage reverse gear, apply the parking brake and turn the ignition key to the ACCESSORY (I) or LOCK (0) position.
3. Depress the clutch pedal and engage reverse gear.
4. Keep the clutch pedal depressed and start the engine.
If you had to use the above procedure to engage reverse gear, a malfunction may be present in the vehicle. Take the vehicle to an authorized dealer service center for inspection and possible repair.
