i-SHIFT Transmission (Manual Transmission with Automatic Mode) - Maximum Permissible Vehicle Speeds
The table below shows the maximum permissible vehicle speeds for each gear. If you exceed the maximum permissible speed for a given gear, the engine speed may enter the red zone of the tachometer. You may notice a change in engine operation. In this case, the electronic control unit controlling the engine systems begins to limit crankshaft speed by reducing the fuel supply. Engine operation returns to normal as soon as the tachometer needle leaves the red zone of the scale.
Although gear shifting is controlled by the electronic control unit, before downshifting make sure that the vehicle does not exceed the maximum permissible speeds (see table).
1.8 L engine

Starting in 2nd Gear. To start the vehicle in second gear, start the engine, then move the selector lever forward once from the "D" position, or press the right (+) paddle switch on the steering wheel once. Before starting to move, make sure that the gear indicator on the display shows the number 2. Starting in second gear helps reduce wheel spin in deep snow or on slippery road surfaces.
Driving on Rough Terrain. When starting to move downhill, do not forget to release the parking brake.

WARNING
If the vehicle is stopped on a hill with the engine running, do not hold it in place by pressing the accelerator pedal.
This will cause accelerated clutch wear and damage to the transmission.
Do not attempt to hold the vehicle on a hill by alternately starting and stopping. This will cause the clutch to fail.
