Starting the engine (for diesel engine versions)
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Switch off all auxiliary electrical consumers to reduce the load on the battery.
3. Fully depress the clutch pedal and move the gear shift lever to the neutral position.
4. Turn the ignition key to the ON (II) position (Ignition on). Wait until the glow plug indicator of the preheating system goes off.
5. Without pressing the accelerator pedal, press the engine start button. Do not hold the engine start button pressed for longer than 15 seconds (no longer than 20 seconds in cold weather). If the engine does not start immediately, wait at least 20 seconds before attempting to start the engine again to allow the electric starter to cool down.

The immobilizer is an effective anti-theft device that protects the vehicle from possible theft. An attempt to start the engine with an incorrect key or any other device will result in the engine fuel system being disabled. For more information on the immobilizer system, refer to page 149.
Cold Weather Conditions
In very cold climates, the battery system fault warning and the engine oil pressure warning may remain illuminated for several seconds before going out. Under these conditions, it is permissible to crank the engine with the starter for a longer time.
Engine Warm-up
To reduce fuel consumption, it is recommended to start driving immediately after starting the engine. However, do not accelerate hard or repeatedly increase and decrease engine speed before the engine has warmed up, as this may cause engine damage.

WARNING
Do not increase engine speed above the maximum idle speed until the engine oil pressure warning light goes out. This ensures proper lubrication of the crankshaft bearings and turbocharger until the idle speed drops to normal values.
Stopping the Engine
To prevent damage to the turbocharger bearings due to lack of proper lubrication, you MUST let the engine idle for at least 10 seconds before switching it off.
